The background of this small portrait was originally supposed to be completely plain. But the photograph of this cute little dog was taken with flash. There was a lot of red eye to contend with, and of course the intense flash light flattened out the white figure. By adding a few shadow lines to the dog's coat and designing the background shadows to good advantage, Bonnie's figure stood out well and had much more dimension than the original photo.
