Shetland Sheepdog - "Nicholas"
Pet Portrait, Dog Oil, 11 x 14 inches
The Shetland Sheepdog, or "Shelty," has been used for centuries to herd sheep on the Shetland Islands, situated off the coast of Scotland. They are often referred to as miniature copies of the long-haired collie. Shelties are truly attractive dogs with glorious long coats and a mane like a lion. The herding instinct is strong in most of them, and they are apt to chase cars if allowed to run loose. Properly trained, they make good family dogs, affectionate and loyal, but are suspicious of strangers. They bark loudly and often, which can be annoying, but they make good watchdogs.
